Compliance with Code of Ethics
The profession of French Patent & Trademark Attorney is regulated by the
Code of Intellectual Property.
As guardians of extremely sensitive information for their clients, French Patent & Trademark Attorneys follow strict ethical rules:
- they have a legal duty of care to their clients,
- they observe the rules of professional secrecy,
- they refuse all conflicts of interest.
The "Profession" law of 11 February 2004 particularly reinforced the rules of professional secrecy for French Patent & Trademark Attorneys by creating article
L.422-11, similar to the lawyer-client privilege.
A discipline chamber at the CNCPI ensures compliance with this code of ethics.
